The Mini Aussiedoodle is a wonderful mix between an Miniature Australian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. They can range in size and weight depending which size the Miniature Australian Shepherd and which size the Miniature Poodle is used for breeding. With that in mind, the mini and medium sizes are usually somewhere between 20 – 30 pounds, and 14 – 17 inches in height, with the toy size being anything below that. Their variety of colors and their soft, silky coat make them quite beautiful and unique. Their eye shade is most commonly golden amber in color, but can also be dark brown, green, or blue. Mini Aussiedoodles are very intelligent dogs, can be easily trained, and seem to thrive in an environment where they are challenged. They are very family oriented and made an excellent family pet as they prove to be very tolerant with small children, and most often get along well with other pets. They have a playful, sweet, and social nature and they tend to be friendly with everyone, so don’t expect a ferocious watch dog with this one! Mini Aussiedoodles tend to have a lot of energy so keeping them exercised and busy is key. As long as they are regularly exercised they will do fine for apartments and small homes as well. The average lifespan for an Aussiedoodle is approximately 12–15 years.
Miniature Australian Shepherd
The Miniature Australian Shepherd or Mini Aussie is a breed of herding dog that enjoys working and has an infinite amount of energy and drive. Due to their high energy level they require lots of exercise and will do best where there is ample space to run and play. They are fast runners, and amazing jumpers, making them outstanding in many dog sports such as frisbee, herding, and agility. They are highly intelligible and have been recognized for their trainability and eagerness to please. They are very loyal and loving dogs and make a great pet provided they are exercised regularly and given lots of love and attention. Their playful, but gentle nature will continue beyond their puppy years, making them a great candidate for families with children. Mini Aussies initially will tend to be slightly standoffish around people they are not familiar with, but will become comfortable if given time. They bond very nicely with their owners and are considered very loyal, affectionate and responsive.
The Poodle comes in three different sizes, toy (10” and under, 6-9 1bs.), miniature (10-15”, 15-17 1bs.), and standard (over 15”, 45-70 1bs.). The Poodle has been cited as being the 2nd most intelligent breed of dog. Their exceptional intelligence, paired with the fact that they are generally very eager to please, empowers them to excel in obedience training. They learn quickly and will delight in showing off their new tricks. Poodles are generally very easy to housebreak. They are loyal and devoted companions, extremely people-oriented, and crave lots of love and attention. They are typically calm, good natured, with a sweet temperament, and the ability to bond with all members of their human family. Poodles have an extremely low-shedding, dense coat which is either curly or corded and should be groomed every 6 – 8 weeks to prevent mats and tangles. If you should so decide, their coat can also be kept short for low-maintenance. Poodles come in a variety of colors such as silver, cream, gray, blue, black, white, apricot, red, caf-au-lait, brown, and parti-colored. The Poodle is oftentimes referred to as the hypo-allergenic dog. But, while there truly is no such thing as a completely hypo-allergenic dog, they are unquestionably more compatible with allergic persons than other breeds. Being classified as highly energetic, the poodle, like most dogs, will appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk, play session, or a run at the dog park.
